Denver based singer, songwriter and classically trained pianist Zoe Berman has just unleashed her debut EP Freezing Heat. The seven song enthralling affair seamlessly mixes a variety of genres including folk, Americana, Jazz, pop and rock.
Over the course of the pandemic, Zoe Berman took the last two years to complete the EP, taking influence from not only her own memories and experiences but also those of close friends. The result is a relatable narrative complete with stories of heartbreak, loss and love influenced by time and specific places. In “Lilac Hour”, Berman was inspired during a bike ride through the wilderness at golden hour. The sensory heavy lyrics describe all the complex colors and hues of nature when fading from light to dark. With full bodied soul-laced layered vocals over rhythmic bass, “Lilac Hour” is a sparsely produced soul pop masterpiece. Berman equally shines in the piano-driven “Manuka Honey’. The single evokes early Norah Jones complete with smokey vocals, fancifully charming landscapes and a tangible yearning. The track was inspired by her time spent in New Zealand and a relationship that ensued.
Freezing Heat is a cohesive and unique EP that feels fresh yet timeless. Zoe Berman proves that she is an artist to watch with her raw storytelling and spell-bounding vocals. Take a listen and share your thoughts with us @celebmix.
