Rising star Au/Ra is back with the surprise video for ‘X Games’, taken from last year’s stunning EP.
A phenomenally busy 2018 for 16-year-old Au/Ra led to a quiet start to 2019. That all changed this week, as the singer/songwriter debuted her music video for ‘X Games’.
The title track from 2018’s debut EP, named in CelebMix’s top EPs of the year, is Au/Ra’s trademark Generation Z electropop at its best. Referencing social media and celebrity culture in “all these blue ticks on my shattered screen” and coining her generation “the fresh meat, hopeless new romantics”, the moody visual sees the ‘Panic Room’-singer team up with director Grant Spanier and producer BLK MTN.
Au/Ra, who recently released stripped back versions of tracks ‘Emoji’ and ‘Ultraviolet’ earlier this year, has also seen Foals cover her hit single ‘Panic Room’ for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge and even became a member of BTS this week (albeit for a few hours on April Fool’s Day).
Reaching more and more fans thanks to supporting sets for the likes of Nina Nesbitt, Tove Stryke and Eden, which we were amazed by at Paris’ La Maroquinerie, 2019 could well be Au/Ra’s biggest year yet. She’s tight-lipped on plans for now, but fans are waiting with baited breath.
