Wood began her incredible career over 40 years ago and was made famous after winning ATV’s New Faces talent show. She was probably best known for starring in and writing the award winning comedy Dinnerladies. Wood also won several BAFTA’s, including two for her one-off ITV drama Housewife, 49.
Among her many great achievements, she was made an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 1997 and later a CBE in 2008.
Famous faces have taken to Twitter to pay tribute to the comedy legend, having been an inspiration to many throughout the years.
