Exclusive: Ant Saunders talks about his hit single Yellow Hearts

What can we say about Ant Saunders other than he’s one to watch as he’s a singer/songwriter who just oozes passion, we recently had a chat with him about his viral hit single Yellow Hearts and signing to Sony’s Arista Records.

What inspired you to write Yellow Hearts?

The song was inspired by this emotional stress I felt when I had low hopes of a relationship working out.

The song has become really big online, how does that make you feel?

It makes me feel so validated because I never received anywhere near this level of recognition before, and it comes from something that I made with my own two hands and my own mind.

You recently signed to Sony, how did that happen?

I just checked my email one day when I got home from school and I was getting stuff from A&R reps from record labels. After meeting with some, I just knew that Arista had the most faith in me and my music.

What advice would you give to anyone looking to sing, write or produce music?

My advice would just be to not give up, and if an opportunity comes your way, chase it because big moments like that are essential in order to succeed. Also, originality is key!

How would you describe the musical sound you have?

I’m very influenced by R&B and pop, but I just like to have fun with all my productions. I also love using sounds that give feelings of nostalgia, that’s like my thing.

Where did you find the inspiration for the music you write?

My writing mainly just comes from personal situations I’ve been in that I can recall, and that has made me feel a really strong emotion.

Is there any artist in the charts at the moment who you think I’d love to have a career like that or even collaborate with?

I love Billie Eilish’s career because she’s such an authentic person, and I love her personality and how she displays it in her music and on-screen. There’s a huge list of people I’d love to collaborate with from all different genres including a lot of newer artists like Daniel Caesar and black bear.

What’s next for you? What do you have planned for 2020 and beyond?

My plan for 2020 and beyond is just to put out more music that people will hopefully enjoy. That’s my main concern. I also hope to loosen up and just be mentally healthy and happy.

Do you love Yellow Hearts as much as us and can’t wait to see what Ant does next? Let us know at @CelebMix!
