Today, we are proud to introduce a South Korean artist by the name of “Rheehab,” who is very well-known on the SoundCloud music platform. Rheehab used to be an underground R&B singer but has since signed to Anotherview label. He now has music available across many platforms, including Spotify and iTunes, with songs that range from R&B to hip hop.
Rheehab’s newest single for “Fish” is a collaboration with Microdot. CelebMix had the change to catch up with Rheehab to ask him how the collaboration came to be, as well as his plans for releasing a new EP. Read our conversation with him below.
Hello, Rheehab. Thank you for speaking with CelebMix. How are you?
I am mainly focusing on doing the things that I need for me to be releasing an album. I meet up with my friends occasionally and getting some rest when I have time.
Could you tell us about yourself and how you started in music?
I made up my mind to start when I was in the 3rd grade in high school. My friend taught me the way to write lyrics before graduation. I was always interested in the hip-hop genre and have been carrying that interest since then.
How would you describe your current sound?
Will my music style gives the opposite gender an exciting and warmth reassuring feeling?
Who are some of your musical influences?
My biggest musical influence was Beenzino, and beside him, Ra.D, Brother Su, etc. I received lots of influences from R&B artists who are able to give a comfortable feeling.
You recently released a remastered version of “Fish”. How did the Microdot feature happen?
I was having raw fish with my friends at a restaurant when they told me that a famous singer named Microdot was eating at a different table. My friends made a joke by telling me to make a conversation with Microdot if I am a musician. I was in the last stage of producing of my song “Fish”, and I only had the thought that if it is possible to get his featuring without having to strike a conversation, but there seem to be no other connections.
However, by chance, our director took this episode into his heart and arranged for me to sit together with Microdot, and I explained the concept of the song to him and Microdot was happy to accept the offer.
Could you tell us about the artwork for “Fish”?
The artwork for the single cover was painted by painter name @ykt0t and he has been a great help since my album released. Just by looking at the song itself, it seems to be miserable and casual but I always thought that this particular painting of the artist suits my music. The empty fish tank with the yellow background makes the appearance of the youth man even more memorable.
You recently posted on Instagram that you went to Indonesia. How was your time there?
I performed in this place called Bandung. It was my first time in Indonesia so I was really nervous. However, the food was really good, and during my performance, and even after my performance, the fans showed me a lot of support, and I was really happy. I hope to go again next time.
So it was your first time performing there. How did you feel about it?
Actually, it was my first time to perform abroad, and I felt that I was not doing well enough especially for my first time on such a big stage. However, fans know about me and sang along with my sing even though they are from a country far from Korea, and I felt emotional for the first time. I was worried as I wasn’t in good condition, but I was able to pluck up my courage and complete my performance thanks to my Indonesian fans.
For those who may be unfamiliar with your work, could you give recommendations for your songs to listen to? Where can we hear them?
My songs can be found on iTunes, Spotify, YouTube, and various platform. I want to recommend the song “Whatchaname” from my first album Rehab.
What is next for you?
The biggest plan is that I am currently preparing for an EP album. It is my first EP so I will need to invest a lot of time and effort for it.
