FILM REVIEW: Southpaw

Southpaw is the compelling, heart felt and dramatic story of Billy “The Great” Hope (Jake Gyllenhaal).

Billy has the perfect life, he is the undefeated light heavyweight champion of the world, is a multi millionaire, married to his childhood sweetheart Maureen (Rachel McAdams) who he has  ten year old daughter Leila (Oona Laurence) with, and he lives in a massive mansion.

But his life comes crashing down around him, when his beautiful wife is shot dead.

Hope’s life takes another devastating turn, when he see’s his daughter and apple of his eye, cruelly taken into social care, and loses all his money.

Over the course of the movie, we see Billy try to rebuild his shattered life, with compelling results, and the lead up to the ultimate epic finale.

With stunning and realistic fight scenes, family drama and all out action, Southpaw is the best boxing movie since Rocky, and is not to be missed.
