There are few people brave enough to take on some of the most legendary songs in music, but an artist who just released a new track today got his start by doing just that. In 2015, Jonas Blue covered Tracy Chapman’s ‘Fast Car’ and the tune charted at number 2, which is higher than Chapman’s version, which peaked at number 5.
To follow up a success like that, Blue knew his debut single had to be a hit. So in 2016, he released a track titled ‘Perfect Strangers’ with JP Cooper and it stood to solidify his place in music. The song is incredible, and still a well-loved song over a year later. The single is certified Platinum in Italy and in the UK. It’s 2x Platinum in New Zeland and 3 in Australia. In addition, it’s got 200 million views on Vevo, and counting.
He also has two other hit singles under his belt, ‘By Your Side’ and ‘Mama’, both of which helped him continue to grow his fan base. His songs are whimsical and dreamy, beautiful and hypnotic, and with each new track, he gets more and more impressive.
So fans were thrilled when he revealed a sneak peek of a new track ‘We Could Go Back’ just days ago. The song features Moelogo and the 10-second preview fans got was enough to keep them anxiously anticipating the song until it’s debut.
Less than an hour ago, the Capital Late Show played the song for the first time and fans who heard it are already calling it a smash hit, and with good reason.
It’s whimsical like his previous songs, but this one hits a little harder, you can feel the emotion and regret in it. It’s hopeful, but a little broken too. It describes an emotion we’ve all felt and poses a question we’ve all asked at least once. What if…
‘Shoulda coulda woulda but it’s too late
shouldn’t catch feelings on a first date‘
The chorus kicks in with an incredible beat and it’s clear that he’s got something to apologize for, it’s not just those quick feelings he caught, but something went wrong and now he realizes that life isn’t so sweet.
‘We could go back, tell me would you even would you still believe in…
if we could go back tell me would you even would you still believe in me‘
That same emotion picks up in the second verse when he says he’s sleeping in the bed of his own mistakes.
‘Tryin to drown feelings that won’t go away
Sleep in the bed of my own mistakes‘
Moelogo joins in with the perfect addition to the tune, saying time waits for no man. It’s a sentiment we don’t often realize until it’s too late. There’s a certain irony to be found there.
I know that time waits for no man
I’m standing here no with no plans
Let’s go back, go go back.
We think it goes without saying that this will be another tune that soars to the top of the charts, and with Jonas Blue, we shouldn’t expect any less. His talent and his passion for his craft run deep and aren’t we all suckers for the love that could have/should have been? We Could Go Back is an instant and timeless hit.
