Pink delivered an incredible performance of the National Anthem at last night’s Super Bowl LII (February 4), despite battling with flu.
Earlier in the week, Pink took to Instagram to say that she was practising the flu away. Having dreamt of performing the anthem for years, Pink stated that her dream was “slowly becoming a sort of nightmare” after catching the flu from her kids.
She said: “I’ve been waiting to sing this song since 1991 when I saw my idol, Whitney Houston, own this song. And now, my chance has finally come. And it just so happens that this chance comes when I have two small Petri dish kids who literally cough INTO MY MOUTH and rub their snot on my cheek. You can’t write this stuff I swear!”
Determined to carry on, she added: “I will tell you, this is one of the biggest honors of my life, singing this song in front of my family, my military family, my dad and brother and step mama and family and the world. And the EAGLES!?!?! I promise I will do my best, as I always do. As far as the gremlins that got me into this mess, you can cough at me for the rest of your lives. If it’s a contest, babies, you win.”
However, there was no need to worry as Pink stepped up and delivered a truly remarkable performance. She was accompanied by Alexandria Wailes, who performed the National Anthem in American Sign Language, on behalf of the National Association of the Deaf.
Showcasing her talent, Pink proved why she is one of the most outstanding artists in the world. If she sings like this whilst battling flu, it says a lot about her vocal talent when she’s fit and healthy.
