Sharon Jones, the lead singer of The Dap-Kings, a funk and soul group died at the age of 60.
The news was confirmed on Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings’ official website. The released statement said,
“We are deeply saddened to announce Sharon Jones passed away today after a heroic battle against pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by her loved ones, including the Dap-Kings.
Thank you for your prayers and thoughts during this difficult time.”
The statement was released on November 18.
Jones was a Grammy-nominated artist who was known for her dynamic shows and wonderful acting. Her album Give The People What They Want was one of the best albums by the singer. Not only was it loved by her fans but it got her a nomination for the Grammy.
As the news was announced, artists shared their condolences and prayers on Twitter.
Nile Rodgers of the disco group Chic said
“#RIPSharonJones – You are incredible and mighty. Condolences to your family.”
Sharon Jones will always be missed.
