Hot on the heels of their recent releases ‘Sick Boy’ and ‘You Owe Me’, The Chainsmokers have dropped another new track titled ‘Everybody Hates Me’.
Arm in arm with their incredible success, it’s no secret that Drew and Alex have received their share of criticism and hatred from numerous sources over the years. Whilst they haven’t been angels, ‘Everybody Hates Me’ discusses the dark side of fame, with Drew questioning “Why do I still have to mean everything I ever said?”
Everything we know about The Chainsmokers is through what is portrayed by the media or themselves on social media. Drew sings that “everyone knows what I look like, not even one of them knows me“, highlighting the fact that the people who hate him don’t even know him personally.
Whilst both Drew and Alex are grateful for their success, it seems that they just want to retain a little normality in their lives. As Drew sings, “I’m not trying to be like “poor me,” I made it, I’m just trying to stay normal now that they know what my name is.”
“I just want to drink tequila with my friends
I’m so defeated, I just want this shit to end”
Lyrically, ‘Everybody Hates Me’ is a continuation of The Chainsmokers’ new sombre sound. However, unlike their previous two releases, the track reverts back to their EDM roots with an infectious drop after each chorus.
‘Everybody Hates Me’ has now been added together with ‘Sick Boy’ and ‘You Owe Me’ to form a Sick Boy…Everybody Hates Me EP, which seems to be growing at a rapid pace.
