Ward Thomas have returned with a sensational new single titled ‘Lie Like Me‘ which is all about making sure we take what we see on social media with a handful of salt. The lyrics touch on how users airbrush their lives to make it seem like they are living the perfect life while in reality they are often going through Hell.
It’s something we are all guilty of from time to time and the lyrical subject matter will no doubt resonate with listeners all over the world. The new track is the first taste of the history making Country duo’s third studio album ‘Restless Minds‘ which will be released on October 5th and promises to be their best body of work to date.
The LP was recorded in Nashville, London and the twins’ native Hampshire and is a coming of age record which features songs on gender equality and mental health along with their relationship as twins. It’s an opinionated and observational collection of tracks seen from the point of view of somebody in their early twenties trying to make their way in the world.
Speaking about the new album, Catherine says: “We’ve never worked so hard on songs in our lives,” says Catherine. “We had to prove that we’ve progressed and, fingers crossed people will agree”
The new record isn’t strictly Country either as the sisters look to step up their sound with their latest offering and sonically they are bending genres more than ever. Lizzy says: “We never consciously tried to be country. We love country but we’ve always set out to simply write songs that suit the content. The country artists we listen to know are the ones mixing it up and moving the genre on – Maren Morris and Kacey Musgraves in particular. But we also love Lorde, Cardi B, Haim and Julia Michaels.”
While Catherine adds of the subjects touched on in their lyrics on ‘Restless Minds’; “As soon as we started writing the album, it became obvious what the themes would be. We were discussing current issues for us as twentysomethings, in a world that’s scary because it’s changing so quickly, but is also creating lots of exciting, new opportunities.”
And the first release off the album is ‘Lie Like Me’ which is a powerful track that embodies everything Ward Thomas stand for in 2018. Bold lyrics, huge crossover country/rock sound, polished production and massive sing-a-long choruses.
And now Ward Thomas have released the powerful lyric video for their new single. The clip is the girls’ own take on the track and it sees them writing lyrics on broken mirrors. It’s a stylish and sophisticated video that really brings to life the meaning behind ‘Lie Like Me’.
