One of 2018’s big breakthrough names, Au/Ra is showing no signs of stopping as she debuts ‘Dance in the Dark’ and ‘Medicine’.
Fresh off the back of her biggest headline tour to date, CelebMix headed down to the youngster’s London date, today Au/Ra offers up moody dancefloor filler ‘Dance in the Dark’ and stripped-back ballad ‘Medicine’.
A songstress whose songwriting knack has been proved time and time again since debuting with ‘Concrete Jungle’ in 2016, culminating in last year’s critically-acclaimed X-Games EP, this year has seen Au/Ra broaden her songbook further.
April’s ‘Assasin‘ won fans over with its menacing clicks, and ‘Dance in the Dark’ follows suit. “Everybody’s scared so dance in the dark”, Au/Ra rallies over her thumping chorus.
On ‘Medicine’, it’s a move away from the relentless electropop that Au/Ra has mastered over the past 12 months. Harkening back to viral ballad ‘Concrete Jungle’, the singer comes to terms with a failing break-up. “Band-aids for all my scraped knees, blankets for all my bad dreams, felt like nothing could hurt me” she coos in the metaphor-powered single.
