The legendary drag and LGBTQ+ figure RuPaul has just received his first Emmy award win! He snatched the title for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program.

RuPaul’s Drag Race has become a legendary TV staple which has really helped shape the new acceptance of drag culture and the LGBTQ+ community. Encompassing the starting roots of the ball scene from the 1980’s and on, the show has endured eight long seasons with more to come down the road. In fact, the show has already been renewed for a ninth season!

After accepting the award, RuPaul stated in a post-interview the following about the show:

Our show represents the tenacity of the human race. The 100 plus girls who have graciously told their story on our show, have really helped so many young people around the world. These young people now have people to help them navigate their own unique story. And you know, that’s what the show is really about.

RuPaul himself stated that he didn’t expect the Emmy win.

Nonetheless, a big Condragulations to such a well-rounded show representing talent from all over the world!
