Everyone is always looking out for hot new artists to amp up their playlists with. If you are someone who enjoys the sounds of electro pop with vibes from the eighties and nineties, then we highly recommend that you check out Empathy Test!
Issac Howlett and Adam Relf, more formally known as Empathy Test, formed their band after discovering a mutual love of eighties sci-fi soundtracks, nineties guitar bands, and underground dance music. Their band name, Empathy Test, is taken from the science fiction film, Blade Runner. The duo also follows themes from the movie and incorporates sci-fi into their album artwork.
The duo released their debut EP, ‘Losing Touch’, which won both critical acclaim and a dedicated fan following. Now they are back with double A-Side ‘Demons / Seeing Stars’ which is set to release on the 9th of September. This is the first taste of the forthcoming debut album and you can hear ‘Demons’ below:
“Like M83, Purity Ring and CHVRCHES, Empathy Test come up with a big dramatic sound that swoons ecstatically between the nostalgic and immediate.” – KCRW
Their track ‘Demons’ deals with the human nature of jealousy and how it can destroy relationships. It explores how some people unconsciously cultivate jealously in a partner in order to control them.
“And now she wakes up, every day and she invites, all of my demons to play” – ‘Demons’ by Empathy Test
Empathy Test and their music has seen radio support amongst KCRW, BBC Introducing and XFM, and features with MTV, Clash Music, Earmilk and PopMatters, and more. They have previously shared the stage with bands such as Bombay Bicycle Club and The Japanese House. The duo is known for captivating their audiences with their branded mix of analogue synth sounds, uplifting melodies, catchy choruses, creative rhythms, and eighties pop beats. The band is embarking on another European tour this September and it is a tour you don’t want to miss!
