British Actor Jim Broadbent, best known for his role as Professor Horace Slughorn in the last 3 Harry Potter films, as well as an Oscar Winning Performance in the 2001 film Iris, is the first new actor announced to have joined the cast of the much anticipated 7th series of the hit HBO series Game of Thrones.
The role that Broadbent will play has yet to be announced, though Entertainment Weekly report it will be a “significant” part, but that hasn’t stopped the most devout Game of Thrones fans taking to the internet to speculate, a task made significantly harder by the fact that the series has now taken over the George R. R. Martin series A Song of Ice and Fire that the show is based on.
Not much is known about the next series, with the team behind the series unsurprisingly keeping their cards close to their chest, but actress Maisie Williams, who recently secured an Emmy nomination for her role of in the series, did manage to stir up even more excitement by tweeting her reactions to reading the Series 7 scripts for the first time.

The seventh series, which will be the shows penultimate, will see the traditional 10 episode Season cut down to a 7 episode run, due to the fact that the episodes will now take longer to film than normal, and has also been delayed from its usual April premier date to a Summer Start.
The casting of Broadbent signals the start of production is imminent, so expect a lot more Game of Thrones news to come your way over the next couple of months!
