Sometimes, you come across a song which instantly hits a nerve and truly resonates with you. Emmi’s ‘Talk To Me’ does just that.
‘Talk To Me’ is the singer’s latest track, and proves to be a hypnotic pop offering. With a catchy hook, poignant lyrics and Emmi’s unique vocals, it’s hard not to be entranced by this song.
Talking about the inspiration behind the song with The 405, Emmi said: “When I started writing ‘Talk To Me’ it was essentially an anti-gossip anthem. I wanted to write about that feeling you get when people get you wrong, or when mistruths are spread about you behind your back. It’s about wanting to be heard. Or, if nothing else, asked.”
However, as time went on, she realised that the song related to so much more: “Distorted ideas are spread about not just individuals but groups of people every day”, she said, “resulting in all kinds of ‘isms’. But if prejudice is as they say, a result of fear of the unknown, then surely there is a simple solution here. Go find out! Ask. Talk. I think it was Maya Angelou who said “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside of you.” That, right there, is one of the reasons I became an artist. To give a voice to those stories. I hope ‘Talk To Me’ does that for someone, somewhere. Whether they are a kid in the throes of high school gossip chains, or someone tackling matters of deep-routed prejudice. I wanted to leave it open enough to work on all levels.”
Emmi also recently shared a live version of the track with The 405.
‘Talk To Me’ has already received support from Radio 1, with Adele Roberts playing the track on her show for the first time just a few days ago. Emmi has garnered support from numerous outlets since starting her career, and can even count Taylor Swift as a fan!
If you’ve watched Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, you may already be familiar with Emmi’s dulcet tones. She was handpicked to sing ‘Blind Pig’, the only song in the film, performed by the ‘singing Goblin’.
Now, it’s time for the world to know the name behind the exquisite voice, as Emmi makes her mark on the music industry in her own right. Mark our words, this girl is destined for great things.
