Starting August 1st, MTV is changing their VH1 Classic channel and turning it into MTV Classic — a channel where your favorite shows from the 90s and early 00s are going to be running again. Considering August 1st commemorates MTV’s start on television (back in 1981), it’s first on-the-air hour will be replicated from their first hour back in 1981 (crazy!). And, the hour will also be able to be streamed online (on Facebook no less) during the time the channel goes up on air.
Some of the shows that are going to be aired during the day include: Beavis + Butthead, Pimp My Ride, Punk’d, Daria, and Unplugged. MTV Classic also plans to include several weekend marathons of shows like Real World and Laguna Beach.
Amongst several shows being aired, there will be some special episodes of shows as well. According to MTV, several episodes of Total Request Live will be going up — but those will only include the “most memorable ones,” with Nirvana and Bob Dylan included.
Here’s the launch video:
Considering many people grew up with these shows, it’s no doubt that some of these will soon be becoming major hits again. We can’t say we’re disappointed — we all like to be reminded of the “good old days” (especially if it means we get some Nirvana specials on our television).
Make sure you set your DVR to record your favorite shows and make sure you tune in on August 1st for the channel’s official launch (or just stream it on Facebook).
