Olivia O’Brien might not be a name you know yet, but we have a feeling 2019 is going to change that.
Based in LA, the 19-year-old singer-songwriter has already been named by Paper Magazine as one of ‘100 Women Revolutionising Pop Music’ and new single Love Myself proves why. Taken from her spring debut album set to be released via Island Records/Virgin EMI if you’ve not heard of Olivia before this is a great introduction to the track. When speaking about her album she explains that ” I hope I can help other people who may be in that same spot. My idea was for you to listen to the album when you’re feeling sad and by the end, you’ll feel better without even realising it“. Even just from Love Myself, we’re feeling the self-love vibes and absolutely love what we hear.
Love Myself is an empowering track with dreamy guitar lines helping you to understand that sometimes being you is all you really need to be. Singing of the need to love yourself before even thinking about loving something else, we’ve all been in this position before let’s be real. Lyrics such as ‘I don’t need to be the same as everyone else‘ are effortlessly powerful, regardless of whether you try to fit in people are ‘going to talk shit anyway‘ so why not just enjoy being you even without a full plan for your life? At the same time as spreading such an important message, it’s incredibly catchy with us singing along to the chorus before we’ve even heard the full track! Once the track finishes we feel ready to face the world and you know what, we think we love ourselves a whole lot more.
Olivia’s previous releases have already seen her gain a supported fanbase allowing her to head out on a US headline tour. Her collaboration with gnash on i hate u i love u allowed her to cement her place as a pop star with a glowing, bright future.
