A week after the CW announced a pilot for upcoming show Katy Keene, news has come out that Riverdale‘s Ashleigh Murray will be joining the cast.
Katy Keene is a spinoff of Riverdale, which is based on the Archie Comics. The new show will include four characters from the Archie universe, including singer/songwriter Josie McCoy, played by Murray, as well as fashionista Katy Keene, who has yet to be cast. The series will be set in New York City, which means Josie will be moving out of her small town of Riverdale to move to the Big Apple.
According to Deadline, the series will take places years after the events of Riverdale, which means that Josie will now be in her twenties and chasing her dream of becoming the next big popstar.
CW president Mark Pedowitz revealed that because Riverdale and Katy Keene will be on different timelines, there will be no crossovers between the two shows. He did, however, tease possible guest appearances of Riverdale characters. He said, “Any of the Riverdale characters who come to Katy Keene will be older.”
Katy Keene is the second spinoff from Riverdale, after Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which is currently on its second season.
