Sabrina Carpenter is without doubt one of the most exciting pop artists in recent years.
Having burst onto the musical scene with her debut EP Can’t Blame A Girl For Trying in 2014, she has since released two full-length albums (Eyes Wide Open and EVOLution) which show a huge development in her style and sound. After wowing with her most recent offerings, solo single ‘Thumbs’, and her Mike Perry/The Vamps collaboration ‘Hands’, Sabrina is back with another slice of addictive pop.
‘Why’ is the songstress’ new single and we couldn’t be any more obsessed if we tried. The song experiments with an electro-pop sound and discusses how opposites really do attract. Co-written with Leland, ‘Why’ includes lyrics such as “Tell me how we’re not alike but we work so well and we don’t even know why”. Sabrina’s distinctive vocal glides effortlessly over the slick beat, whilst she lists some of the many differences between two people who are still drawn to each other.
Speaking about the song with iHeartRadio, Sabrina said: “‘Why’ is a question we seem to pose daily, so there are multiple meanings within the song that are up to interpretation. We don’t necessarily need to be the same, to love the same. Sometimes differences can hold us together and I think that’s a beautiful sentiment to how we deal with divergence and how it can furthermore prove our compatibility. In the end, we don’t really need to know ‘why’ if we are confident in our own emotions.”

‘Why’ was released today after being performed for the first time last night (July 6) during the opening show of her summer tour. ‘The Detour’ kicked off in Vancouver last night, with support from Alex Aiono and New Hope Club.
Sabrina has had a busy 2017 so far. Whilst she will be touring North America for the next few months, she has already toured across the UK and Europe earlier this year. The singer joined The Vamps for the UK leg of their Middle of the Night world tour, and even headlined some of her own European shows.
Alongside touring, Sabrina has been busy in the studio working on her next body of work. If ‘Why’ is anything to go by, then we’re in for a treat! We’re certain that Sabrina is going to continue her rise to the top this year.
