Sam Smith has announced that his next single will be a new version of ‘Pray’, featuring rapper Logic.
Announcing the news on Twitter, Sam said: “My new single is PRAY feat. @Logic301 I am so excited for you to hear this new version of one of my favourite tracks on the album. It was an absolute pleasure to collaborate with Logic to create this, such an incredible artist x Released Thursday.”
‘Pray’ is taken from Sam’s sophomore album, The Thrill Of It All. Speaking to Billboard in October, he revealed that the track was written after he spent time in Iraq with War Child. Sam said: “I spent five days in Mosul and came back embarrassed that I had known so little about the world and other people’s lives”
“I went back to that great Nina Simone quote, that it is important to speak about the times you live in. I hadn’t done that; I’d just written a bunch of songs about love. So I wanted to write about how I’m now starting to open my eyes, at 25, to what is going on in the rest of the world, and that it’s not always pretty.”
We’re excited to see how Logic, who is best known for his suicide prevention-themed single 1-800-273-8255, is going to fit in on the track. The rapper recently dropped his Bobby Tarantino II mixtape.
Whilst we wait patiently for Sam and Logic’s collaboration to drop, take a listen to the original version of ‘Pray’ below.
Sam is currently in the middle of his The Thrill Of It All world tour. The singer announced earlier today that he has partnered with PLUS 1 to make sure that £1 from every ticket sold goes to War Child, in order to help protect, educate and stand up for children caught up in war.
‘Pray’ featuring Logic will drop on Thursday (March 29).
