Teen Wolf star Tyler Posey revealed to Entertainment Weekly that his character, Scott McCall, will not have a girlfriend in season six.
Ever since the show premiered, Scott has always been in a relationship. Scott was with Allison (Crystal Reed) for seasons 1-3, and then with Kira for seasons 4-5 (Arden Cho). Tyler thinks that it will be a good change for his character to be single in the upcoming season. He says that he’ll be able to relate more with his character.
“In my experience… it’s kind of always been that way too,” Posey said. “This is the first two years I’m really single, so I relate to it with Scott and I thought it was something that every person has to go through in their life, grow on their own and really figure out who they are. That’s kind of what’s going on with Scott.”
Showrunner Jeff Davis said, “When we realized that the show wasn’t going to have Kira Yukimura this season, we wanted to ask ourselves, ‘Does Scott always need to have romance in his life to be a compelling character?’ We thought this might be a season where we don’t see that side and we see him struggling a little bit.”
In the sixth season, fans will see the second half of the characters’ senior year. With no new relationship, Scott will be focusing on graduating and keeping his friends safe.
Tyler said that the events in season 5 made Scott “stronger” and “rebuilt.” He added that fans can expect to see Scott “in a pretty good place” and that “he’s somewhat happy.”
The sixth season of Teen Wolf is expected to air in the fall on MTV. Usually, the show premieres in June, but with Dylan O’Brien’s recent injuries, the filming for the show is on a hiatus.
