The Best of ‘The X Factor’ – Week 1

‘The X Factor’ returned to our screens this weekend – how we missed it! Judges Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh made up the panel, praising and also critiquing contestants. Some auditionees performed an original song, while others performed their own rendition of popular songs. The level of talent this year is absolutely phenomenal, we can’t wait to see more auditions as the show progresses!

Here at CelebMix, we take a look back at five of our favourite auditions from the first week of auditions – it was a really difficult decision! Check them out below.

1. Grace Davies

Singer-songwriter Grace Davies was a definite stand-out audition from the weekend. She impressed Judges with her original, emotional song ‘Roots.’ Simon said that it was a ‘beautiful, beautiful song’ and Sharon said that she couldn’t wait to hear more original material from Grace. We can’t wait to see more performances from her!

2. Holly Tandy

Despite only being 15 years old, Holly Tandy astounded Judges with her version of popular Alicia Keys’ track ‘If I Ain’t Got You.’ She especially wanted to make her Grandad proud, as he was involved in music in the past. Following her performance, Simon said that Holly truly defined determination as she has persevered in following her dream – and it is paying off.

3. Jack and Joel

Duo Jack and Joel impressed Judges with their audition, performing a mash-up of Ed Sheeran songs from his latest album. Their performance featured the following popular tracks: ‘Galway Girl,’ ‘New Man’ and ‘Barcelona.’ The duo further impressed with their beatboxing and their ability to sing in Spanish.

4. Lloyd Macey

We loved Lloyd (and his Nan) – he has such an incredible, unique voice. He did a phenomenal and moving rendition of Sam Smith’s ‘Lay Me Down.’ Sharon said that he had ‘a beautiful, rich voice’ that he manages to ‘control very well.’ Alesha described the chorus as ‘pure gorgeousness.’ We look forward to hearing more of him!

5. Shanaya Atkinson-Jones

Shanaya’s audition was extremely emotional and powerful, moving Nicole Scherzinger to tears. She did a beautiful rendition of ‘Say Something,’ managing to put a soulful twist on the track. Alesha described her performance as ‘hypnotising’ and Nicole said she was ‘a diamond in the rough; you make me feel things.’
