We have a brand new single and music video from INNA as she takes a brand new inspired step in her music career. Titled, “RA”, this is the first single of many from her upcoming sixth studio album “YO”, which she had complete creative control over, having written all the songs herself. It’s a side-step away from the club genre she’s famous for, but with repetitive plays, this is guaranteed to be stuck in your head. “RA” follows up previous single “No Help“. and sees her release under Jay-Z’s well-known record label Roc Nation. under exclusive license from Global Records.
INNA, real name Elena Apostoleanu, is one of the biggest Romanian female artists around at the moment, having gone on to have international success with her early singles such as “Hot”, “Amazing”, and “Sun Is Up”. She’s continued her success with a variety of singles that have hit over 100 million views on YouTube including “Ruleta“, “Gimme Gimme“, and “Heaven“. She has collaborated with some of the biggest artists and DJs including Flo Rida, Pitbull, J Balvin, Daddy Yankee, Martin Solveig, Sak Noel, and Dannic, to name a few. Now, as she’s gearing up to release her sixth studio album, she’s taken creative control, unlocking her songwriting abilities and finally releasing a full Spanish album. We can’t wait to hear more music from her upcoming LP.
This first single from the said album was written by David Ciente, Elena Apostoleanu, Marcel Botezan, Maria Chiluiza, and Sebastian Barac, while it was produced by David Ciente, Marcel Botezan, and Sebastian Barac. As for the music video, which was released on Friday, Bogdan Paun from the NGM Creative directed whilst Loops Production acted as the production company. The single release sees Global Records team up with Roc Nation for the release.

This is very different from INNA, a whole new era; “RA” feels more like an album track rather than an actual single release, and probably would’ve been better used as a promotional track to the album rather than a first fully-fledged single. It’s very different from what she has previously released and if this is the vibe of the new album “YO” then we’re not surprised that previous singles “Me Gusta“, “No Help“, and “Pentru Ca” were kept off the album – although we would love an acoustic version of “Me Gusta” to be added, since it is a Spanish-language track and therefore would fit within the LP.
This track is more of a ballad, something many of INNA’s fans, named Club Rockers, aren’t used to from her. In the past, we’ve had “Endless”, but that had been mixed upbeat and is still club-worthy today. We’ve also had the likes of “Fie ce-o fi” which was a collaboration with Dara, Antonia, and Carla’s Dreams; “Fata din randul trei”, “Tu si eu” with Carla’s Dreams, and “Cum ar fi?“; which all still has INNA’s signature style; and we can’t forget about her cover of Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself”, but this latest one throws all that aside. It takes a few plays before it becomes catchy, meaning that “RA” is a grower of a song and one that will get stuck in one’s head, over time.
We’re used to INNA singing about love and so it’s not a surprise to see her change her style when singing about saying goodbye to a lover because this person hurt her. Our rough translation of the lyrics suggests that she’s better off without this person, with the post-chorus – “Yo mejor me voy” – translating to “I better go”. This song is going to touch a lot of people, it sure has touched us after we understood the meaning of the song. INNA sings it beautifully, and this style really shows off her incredible vocals, her songwriting abilities, and her strong emotional vibes.
As for the music video, INNA brings female empowerment, showcasing herself as a strong independent woman, much like the lyrics to the song. She’s got her girls and that’s all she needs; the group bring a united front and in turn solidarity. It has a similar feel as “No Help” which also signified strength and independence.
“RA” is available to download and stream right now, through Global Records under exclusive license to Roc Nation. Her sixth studio album, “YO”, is set to be released soon – it will be her first Spanish-language album.
