Lea Michele has signed onto an ABC untitled city mayor comedy pilot.
The comedy pilot, which is executive produced by “Hamilton” star Daveed Diggs, is about an outspoken, idealistic rapper named Courtney (Brandon Micheal Hall) who runs for office as a publicity stunt and actually gets elected, then surprising everyone, including himself, when he has a natural knack for the job and slowly transforms City Hall.
Details on Michele’s role are not yet available as the part is currently being adjusted to accommodate the actress. Originally, the character was planned to be Courtney’s chief of staff.
Michele has most recently starred on the Ryan Murphy show Scream Queens for two seasons. By moving onto a project at a competing broadcast network, she has been released from her contract with the show. This means that her character Hester Ulrich won’t be returning for a potential third season.
